Under the auspices of UNESCO, the representatives of the signatory countries of the Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications in Higher Education, including Romania, through the National Center for Recognition and Equivalence of Diplomas, met on Friday, May 7, 2021, in an international webinar dedicated to implementing the Convention.
The webinar resumed the general objective of the Convention, namely the international needs for academic and professional mobility to ensure respect for applicants' rights to a fair and transparent recognition of their qualifications / diplomas, but also the obligations of holders of such qualifications and the implementation of procedures. clear and non-discriminatory recognition.
Despite the difficulties created by the COVID-19 pandemic, the last two years indicate remarkable developments in international student mobility policy and cooperation. Both the Global Convention - adopted at the end of 2019, unanimously by the 193 UNESCO Member States - and the regional conventions on the recognition of studies have undergone important developments that also underpin the implementation of the Global Convention.
The potentially disastrous consequences of the pandemic for academic mobility have once again underlined the importance of establishing effective mechanisms at both regional and global level for the fair, transparent and non-discriminatory recognition of qualifications obtained abroad.
To promote the Global Convention on the Recognition of Qualifications in Higher Education and the General Principles for the Recognition of Studies and the Encouragement of the Mobility of Students and Teachers, UNESCO has created a dedicated web page, which includes the text of the Convention, related events and success stories.
For the implementation of the Global Convention, UNESCO recently published a short practical guide for recognition, which can be used by all those involved in the recognition processes.
