Between 23rd and 26th of June, a series of events took place in Bologna, Italy, on the 20th Anniversary of the Bologna Declaration on the Upgrading and Restructuring of Higher Education Systems.
Romania implemented the provisions of the Bologna Declaration by adopting Law no. 288/2004 which introduced the higher education system into three cycles: the Bachelor, the Master and the Doctorate.
In the speeches presented at the event were reviewed the achievements of the last 20 years, such as the creation of the European Higher Education Area (EHEA), quality assurance systems in Higher Education, the implementation of National Qualifications Frameworks, the transferable credit system, the supplement to diploma, encouraging mobility through the ERASMUS program, etc. It has not been forgotten the social aspect of the Declaration which, through its implementation, has led to an increase in the number of students in Higher Education, a greater gender equality, and the introduction of systems for promoting social inclusion without discrimination on basis of nationality, ethnicity, social status.
A commonly agreed conclusion has set as a common objective that the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) needs to continue to develop education systems in the Member States, in view of the expansion of alternative digital technology-based education methods, interests in emerging areas and to ensure future generations, an adequate training in the increasingly diverse labor market and in a society based on sustainability.
The anniversary had peer learning activities like peer learning meetings; and workshops on recognition of studies, academic freedom and quality assurance, based on the Bologna Follow-up Group (BFUG) work plan.
