The member centers of the NARIC networks met on 29th of November in Brussels, at the annual meeting organized by the European Commission, with the support of the European Council and UNESCO.

The meeting marked the 35th anniversary of the date of setting up the NARIC network, 25 years from the date of the establishment of the ENIC network and 15 years from the date of adoption of the Network Charter, during which were presented the most important moments and actions initiated and implemented for recognition of studies, in conjunction with future projects focused on academic mobility and internationalization of higher education.

The NARIC network (National Centers for Academic Recognition and Information) was established in 1984, the secretariat of which is provided by the European Commission and has members from the European Union states. The NARIC centers support and provide assistance for the implementation of the Lisbon Convention on the recognition of studies by the competent national authorities of the signatory States of the Convention. At the same time, they serve as a mechanism for multilateral cooperation within the UNESCO Europe and North America region and provide liaison with other UNESCO regions.

The ENIC (European Network of National Information Centers) network was established in 1994, in co-operation with UNESCO and the Council of Europe, as co-secretariat. This network brings together the countries that have signed the Lisbon Convention, with the same powers as the NARIC Centers.

Currently, the ENIC-NARIC network has 55 Member States and is an example of good practice in recognizing studies for developing new regional networks under the Studies Recognition Agreements for Asia, the Middle East, Africa or Latin America.

The Romanian NARIC Center was created on December 1, 1995, based on Agreement no. 95-PECO-SOC-0019 concluded with the European Commission, as part of the National Agency SOCRATES. As a member of the ENIC / NARIC networks, the National Center for Diploma Recognition and Equivalence ensures at national and international level a permanent exchange of information and assistance regarding the education system and the legal status of educational institutions from abroad, training, as well as and the specific conditions of these institutions for obtaining study papers.
