Recognition and equivalence
The procedures of recognition and equivalence of diplomas for bachelor, master and doctorate applies to diplomas obtained at universities in third countries, except for prestigious universities in these countries for which the automatic recognition procedure is applied.
CNRED recognizes documents of higher education studies obtained abroad by assessing and determining the level, main field of studies and/or specialization compared to the Romanian education system.
Following the assessment, CNRED can automatically recognize or by applying difference examinations or other compensatory measures, the level, field of study and/or specialization. When applying difference examinations or other compensatory measures, CNRED collaborates with the higher education institutions.
This procedure applies both to continue studies in Romania, as well as access to the labor market.
CNRED recognizes, based on a file, within 30 days bachelor and master. In some cases, diplomas for bachelor and master are evaluated by the National Council for Evaluation of Diplomas (CNED), to be recognized or equivaled.
CNRED recognizes, based on a file, within 30 days doctorate diplomas. This term may be extended accordingly if additional verifications are done or when CNRED submits the file for evaluation to the National Council for Attesting Titles, Diplomas and Certificates (C.N.A.T.D.C.U.).
Automatic recognition
By applying automatic procedure, CNRED recognizes the diploma level and main field of studies without applying other difference examinations or other compensatory measures. If the specialization abroad has a correspondent in Romania, CNRED recognizes, upon request, this specialization.
Automatic recognition applies both to enrollment to studies in Romania, as well as access to the labor market. For further studies in higher education in Romania, CNRED collaborates with the higher education institutions.
CNRED recognizes, based on a file, study documents obtained at: EU universities and prestigious universities in other states.
The term recognition for diplomas of bachelor and master is 30 days and for doctorate diplomas is 10 days.
CNRED applies the automatic recognition procedure since 2008 for diplomas obtained from accredited educational institutions in any country of the EU, EEA and Switzerland.
The automatic recognition procedure does not apply for the degrees that give access to a regulated profession, in which case it is verified that the minimum compulsory requirements set by the european and national legislation are met.
